The Human Sculpture

Along the same vein as the Human Knot, these team building exercises encourage cooperation and creativity.


The human sculpture starts by dividing the larger group into smaller groups of between three and six people.  Have the groups come up with an idea for a sculpture and then take turns making the sculpture in front of the other groups.  The group which can correctly identify the sculpture within the time limit goes next.  Keep score to make it competitive and have a prize for the winning team.

The machine exercise involves teams creating a machine with their bodies, and there are a couple different ways to do it. For the first variation, start by splitting the larger group into smaller groups.  Then, assign the groups a type of machine and have them try to create it.  Encourage participants to include moving parts and sound effects.  Have a prize for the most creative interpretation. 

The second variation on the machine activity gives much more flexibility and creativity to the players.  It can also be called the “assembly line.”  Tell participants that they are each responsible for a part of the assembly line but the duty they perform is up to them.  Then, as an
