first impression ice breakersSummary:

This group icebreaker (or party game) in which players write their first impressions of each other on a large paper taped or pinned to their backs. It is especially good for groups not yet acquainted or for players who have already known each other. The recommended age is 13 and up. You will need at least 10 players. This group icebreaker works with very large ice breaker meetings or groups. Materials that are needed, a large piece of paper or poster board for each of your players, tape or straight pins, pens or markers.

Instructions:

This is a great icebreaker that involves writing your first impression of someone you meet. If some of the players already know each other, that’s fine too — players can simply write some nice, positive or encouraging words to describe each other. Please nothing negative. This works well as an icebreaker for meetings, when there are new people present, or when people don’t know each other very well. It can be entertaining as a workplace motivating icebreaker.

To set up Your First Impressions game, pass out the large sheets of paper or poster board, pens or markers to the players. Have each player write their name on the top of the sheet of paper. Have them underline their name. Have another player tape or pin it to the back of the player that it belongs to so they cannot see it. If using markers, be sure to use a heaver bond paper or poster board so that the markers don’t bleed thru onto the players clothing. Instruct the players to mingle with each other and to chat. All players should introduce themselves and converse for three minutes. After the three minutes, the 2 players that were speaking will write their first impressions on the other player’s paper. Then have each person continue mingling with new people, repeating the process. After 20-30 minutes (depending on how large your group is and how long you want this icebreaker to run), each person should have several adjectives and descriptive words listed on their backs. Have the player’s team up with each other around the room and introduce each other, reading the words written on their team’s paper. This should be pretty humorous, and if the players played this icebreaker correctly, there should be lots of kind things said about each other.

Important note: Be sure to instruct everyone to write nice (or positive) words ONLY! Do not allow any mean, rude, or critical words to be written. For example, one can write words such as “nice eyes,” “Fantastic sense of humor,” “smart and witty,” “excellent dresser,” etc
